If you are looking for a top quality solar training course and you live in or near Ohio then Christmas has come early for you.
Ten leading Ohio companies that manufacture components in the wind, solar and biomass industries have received grants which will enable them to train workers in these emerging, advanced energy technologies.
The grants, part of the state’s “Energizing Careers” program, will total more than $1.1 million and will go toward reimbursing the cost of solar training up to $6,000 for full-time employees. The program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, is funded as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Ohio counties which have been impacted by the restructuring of the automotive industry were given preferential funding for this project for their citizens to gain skills in the emerging green market.
“The future of our economy is advanced energy manufacturing and our workforce must keep up with the demands of the marketplace,” said Christiane Schmenk, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “These solar training dollars will benefit incumbent workers, as well as allow new employees to be hired.”
Under the program, 108 new workers and 83 workers will receive practical help including solar training under the program. Marathon Special Products, of Bowling Green, earned the largest grant award of the ten companies. The $250,600 grant will train 120 employees to manufacture the company’s solar power integration components, wind power connections, and wind circuit protection devices.

5 Day Appalachian Solar Training Workshop
A 5 day solar training workshop on the design and construction of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems has started at Appalachian State University. Participants will learn the basic concepts, tools, techniques and materials needed to design and build battery-enabled and grid-connected solar photovoltaic systems. …
“The 40-hour workshop will focus on the key competencies addressed in the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) entry-level photovoltaic systems exam and will include the test at the culmination.
The NABCEP PV Entry Level solar training program is designed for individuals with interest in the solar field, and is a way to demonstrate achievement of a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of grid-tied and stand-alone PV Systems.”
The cost of this solar training course to the general public is $750, while students are eligible for $375. The workshop can enroll up to 40 participants …
